Everest Base Camp Weather Conditions in Spring

Everest Base Camp in March

March is the beginning of spring in Nepal and the end of the cold winter in the mountains. While the temperatures are relatively mild, humidity is low and the chances of rain and snowfall are diminishing. However, there might still be an occasional shower or snowfall. The sky is clear and offers stunning views. The daytime temperatures in Namche Bazaar can reach around 9 °C but drop below zero at night.

Everest Base Camp in April

In April, trekkers can expect warmer weather while the chances of rain are low. The daytime temperatures at Namche Bazaar reach a maximum of 12°C and around zero degrees at night. Of course, the temperatures will drop with increasing altitude. In the lower regions, the landscapes are in full bloom with colorful wildflowers and rhododendrons. This time usually offers clear visibility and stunning mountain views, especially in the mornings. Thanks to those perfect conditions, April is the most popular month for trekkers in the spring season.

Everest Base Camp in May

May is the last month of the spring season. The temperatures in Namche Bazaar can reach a maximum of 14°C and drop to around 0 degrees at night. Since the monsoon season is approaching, the risk of rainfall is increasing, especially at the end of the month. Nonetheless, you still have good chances of catching mesmerizing views. The month of May also offers the best weather conditions for climbing Mount Everest. In other words: The trails might be busier with mountaineers on their way to EBC.

Everest Base Camp Weather Conditions in Monsoon

Everest Base Camp in June

June is the beginning of the monsoon season. But, that is “just” the calendar date. As we all know, nature is unpredictable - the big downpour might not kick in immediately. While rain, clouds, and humidity are becoming more common in June, it doesn’t necessarily mean it rains all day long. Once the clouds clear up, you might be rewarded with clear mountain views on quiet trails. However, you need to be well equipped for rain and don’t mind wet conditions. The temperatures in Namche Bazaar can be as high as 16°C during daytime and drop to around 6 °C at night.

Everest Base Camp in July

By July, the monsoon has arrived. Trekkers who venture out to EBC during this month should expect rain every day. In other words: The trails get muddy and slippery. Nonetheless, the rain usually hits the hardest in the evening and at night. Once the clouds fade away during the day, lucky trekkers might enjoy clear views in peaceful surroundings. Also, keep in mind that the rain gets less with higher altitudes. Another advantage of this time of the year is the mild temperatures (with an average high of 16°C in Namche Bazaar).

Everest Base Camp in August

August is the last month of the monsoon season. Similar to July, the weather conditions are warm and humid. That means, you must be prepared with the right equipment, the right mindset, and don’t expect picture-perfect views. On the brighter side, the trails are empty and the chances of rain are decreasing at altitudes above 3500 m.

Everest Base Camp Weather Conditions in Autumn

Everest Base Camp in September

The Autumn trekking season starts in September when the rains subside and the temperatures are still comparatively mild. In Namche Bazaar, the maximum temperatures reach 15°C during the day. Night temperatures drop to around 6°C. The beginning of the month can still bring some downpour. By mid-September though, the monsoon clouds usually fade away and give room to clear mountain views.

Everest Base Camp in October

The most popular month for trekking in autumn is October. The weather conditions are usually stable, and the dry time offers perfect conditions for clear views of the Himalayan landscapes. The temperature reaches an average high of 12°C in Namche Bazaar during the day and just above zero at night.

Everest Base Camp in November

November is the last month of the autumn season, with temperatures dropping slightly. The average high in Namche Bazaar is 9°C. It is still one of the driest times of the year, offering crisp clear views. November is almost as popular as October. When the temperatures drop at the end of the month, the crowds will begin to subside.

Everest Base Camp Weather Conditions in Winter

Everest Base Camp in December

December is the beginning of the winter, the coldest time of the year in Nepal. In Namche Bazaar, the average high reaches 7°C. Similar to December, you won’t encounter much rain in January, but the chances of (heavy) snowfall are high. The winter weather may change suddenly and the wind can be very strong. Brace yourself for cold temperatures: max 6°C during the day and min -8 at night in Namche Bazaar (and much lower in higher altitudes). On clear and sunny days, the panoramic views of the snow-capped mountains are amazing.
